Dana Tanamachi

Dana Tanamachi makes some really cool stuff.

Tanamachi is graphic designer & custom chalk letterer who has been living and working in Brooklyn, NY since 2008. Tanamachi has worked for SpotCo designing posters for Broadway shows and currently  works for Louise Fili Ltd, a NYC Graphic Design Studio specializing in logo, package, restaurant, and book design.

When not at work, Tanamachi has developed an amazing skill in chalk lettering. She has created a unique style that really draws the eye. Her stylized typography is really fantastic. Check out some more of her chalk renderings below and def check out her site here. And if you're in NY and know a hip place that could utilize her talents, def send her a message.

Title Art

This is A Brief History of Title Design from Ian Albinson. This video is an amazing compilation of title art from some of the most influential designers of the last century. If you're either a film nut or a design geek (luckily I'm both), I'm pretty sure you're gonna love it.

Albinson's video compilation comes from his website artofthetitle.com. It's an amazing site collecting new and old title art into one convenient place. Convenient and awesome enough to possibly steal much of your free time. I highly recommend it. If you love art, film, and design; and if you found yourself watching the ending credits of Blue Valentine or or the opening of Se7en thinking, "I'd love to have been a part of that," this site is for you. So enjoy, and let me know whatcha think.

Fall Again

I love the fall.

Things are just beautiful and awesome. It's my final semester of classes, I got my show opening coming up, and all I wanna do is go off to the woods and walk around. So, I took a day off from school, and worked a short project into a little day trip. Got to take some fun pictures and got to just spend some time away from everything. Little sick of looking at a computer to be honest.

Anyway, didn't turn out exactly how I wanted as I sorta ran outa time. But it's all good, check it out:

IKEA

Another question:
Who thinks that IKEA made the right decision changing their brand typeface from Futura to Verdana?

I think that it was a terrible decision, though some of my friends and profs have different ideas. Whatcha think?

WW3

Can I just say these posters are sweet?
They're part of a 'WW3 Propaganda' series highlighting the affect that the interweb culture holds on us. It shows how important these things have become in a really cool, designy way.
I really like em.
The integration of modernity into an aged aesthetic is just really fun.

Bravo's Art Show

So Bravo has announced a new show?

Bravo has announced that they will be having a national casting call for participants in a reality show that will pit 13 aspiring artists against each other for a gallery show, a cash prize, and a sponsored national museum tour for their work.
For anyone who has(does) watch project runway, I'm assuming it will be run in a similar fashion, pun intended. The artists' creations will be within a range of media including: sculpture, painting, photography, and industrial design; just to name a few .

While who Bravo chooses as contestants will seemingly affect the entertainment value of this show, I'm actually kind of excited. I think it will be fun to watch aspiring artists get thrown into new territories and media, and to see just how creative they are.

I think I'll watch. You?

Mykromag

A great web mag that I came across in my travels.
As with many fashion oriented magazines,
MYKROMAG is laid out out really nicely
and has some gorgeous photographs
and great design bio's.

It is a fashion magazine for designers.
And it is great.

It's worth checking out, you must.

Ribbon Staircase

Freak'in awesome.I wanna buy a house,
so I can buy a new staircase.

I think I would go up and down them 500 times a day, just because they're that cool.
I mean they might not be great for small children or animals, but who needs those anyways?
Not when you have the coolest staircase in town.

The staircase was designed by the architecture firm HSH from Prague.

Polygon Playground

Remember going to the playground? Swinging on the swings? Sliding the slides?
Personally I liked the wooden ones back then. Seemed more natural, homey; didn't have that cold feeling that the metal (industrial) ones did. But you know, if they had play areas like this when I was a kid, I think I woulda loved it :)

Web

Soooooo, I also created my first website. Parr Bear needed a website for his starting up photography business and I made him his first site! Not perfect, but pretty dang good for a first site I'd have to say. Took me foreeeeeever to learn how to make it, but I'm super happy with it and I hope he is too. Anyways, if ya haven't check it out! And let me know what ya think.

HEEEEEYYYYY ALLLLLL

Sooooo sorry buds that it's been so long since my last post. Thanks for sticking with me kids! I'll probably post a few in the next few days to make up for myself!!

Anyways, I've been super busy; dislocating my patella, designing my first website, starting a design/photography company with a friend of mine, watching oscar movies, and of course, doing school fun. Soooo I guess the next few posts will be on these fun things starting with me knee.

So I was at Krav Maga and I dislocated my patella, hope none of you get queasy from pics!! Haha, here's me in the hospital before they popped it back it...

I'm walking and all that fun now, but I'll have to get surgery soon to reconnect my lateral collateral tendon, and to realign my kneecap. I can walk and stuff now so it's all good. Anyways, hope ya laughed at the pic! Haha
