Chiho Aoshima was part of Takashi Murakami's design collective and has created some beautiful and poignant works in the Superflat, Murakami's self-proclaimed art movement. If you've never heard of it, Superflat is a pop art movement that among other things, relates to the "shallow emptiness of Japanese consumer culture"(Murakami). Although Murakami started this movement in the early 2K's, Aoshima is doing gorgeous and important things in the art world.
If you're familiar at all with Japanese music you'll most likely recognize the sound of the Shamisen. A traditional Japanese instrument, this documentary seems to show some interesting new styles being played with this instrument. This is part of the upcoming documentary.
I'm not sure exactly when this documentary is coming out, but it seems really cool (hopefully they'll put some subtitles in the doc for us too).
If you wanna hear some more non-traditional Shamisen music check it out.
Sooooo sorry for such a long delay. I've been absent from my online life for sure. School (which is awesome but demanding), work (pizza plant, and now I'm back to my internship, but this time I'm getting paid and I'm starting to do some stuff that's a little more design oriented), ya know how it is I'm sure. Actually I just got back from school doing a vis com project, can ya tell I kinda took over the entire room?? lol. Well, at least it's saturday and I got all my hw done for Monday! Which is awesome.
So in my travels along the ever dusty, ever continuous pathway of the internet avenue, I stumbled across this vid.
Don't you just wanna visit Japan? Holy future city! Yeah... so do I. So after I figure out and do the England thing, Tokyo here I come!! haha
